The call for the fire came in around 3 p.m. Wednesday with the department responding within minutes, Chief Bill Nikisher was quick to call for reinforcements.

Mahopac firefighters tried to sandwich the fire between the trucks but the tree line proved too dense and a mutual aid call was put out for Battalion 16 and Mahopac Falls to roll out with a brush truck and tanker. Firefighters had to work the fire from both Shinya Court and Eleanor Drive, officials said.

Mahopac Falls Fire Police took control of traffic and scene safety with two large fire vehicles taking up one complete lane for one hundred feet at the crest of a rise making it difficult for drivers to see firefighters putting them at risk.

The department had the fire under control by 5 p.m.
